Dr. Ina-Mari McAlister grew up in Pretoria and obtained her MBChB cum laude at the University of Pretoria in 2011. She moved to Cape Town in 2012 to complete her two years of internship at Somerset Hospital and spent the following year in rural Mpumalanga at Themba Hospital, to complete her community service. During this time she was exposed to all areas of medicine and really enjoyed working in Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics. She completed her Diploma in Anaesthetics in 2014.
The next few years were spent working as a General Practitioner and Emergency Medicine Doctor in Pretoria before finding her way to Medical Oncology where she gained valuable experience in the management of solid tumours and haematological malignancies. In 2019 she moved back to Cape Town and joined a Haematology Practice where she has been privileged to support patients and families who are diagnosed with blood cancers and receiving chemotherapy or stem cell transplants.
She has recently joined the team at Bergvliet Family Practice and strives to give quality service to each person who walks through her door and provide patient education, ensuring that illnesses can be prevented and treated earlier.
She lives in the Southern Suburbs with her husband and recently became a mother for the first time after adopting a beautiful little girl. She loves reading, hiking with her two Whippets, keeping busy in the garden or capturing a scene in watercolours.
